My sister Sara is back for a guest post series on her daughters experience taking her next session of classes at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati! Please post any questions you may have :)
My daughter Skylar has just begun her newest Adventure at The Children’s Theater of Cincinnati Academy, Musical Theater Medley. Because she took part in the drama for beginners class in the summer we thought we knew what to expect, but the classes could not be more different! While the summer session was definitely an icebreaker into acting and could be used to help children who have a hard time coming out of their shell or as an outlet for kids with active imaginations, this session is definitely more geared towards training the children in the art of performing. Musical theater is a much larger class and it is very structured. The kids jumped right in with instructions on what play they would perform, what their roles would be, and a basic introduction of what musical theatre is all about.
The children will be performing Annie at the end of the winter session and have received tracks to familiarize themselves with the music. They even got their very own scripts to practice their lines. Skylar is already strolling through the house singing “It’s A Hard Knock Life” (or at least her version of it) and making up her own dance moves to go along!
I am definitely excited to see what she will learn this season and how she will be challenged in this new environment. My daughter has danced for 3 years and has always shown an interest in performing. Skylar loves being the center of attention but this will be the first time she’ll combine singing, acting, and dancing on a stage that’s not in our living room! She’s very excited about the new challenges, I’m a bit nervous, but either way it’s going to be a blast! So good luck to the newest Annie “orphan” and stay tuned to see how it goes…
