Local moms come together to organize 1st Annual Family Fun Run Benefit! #adoption #cleanwater
Two local moms who sit together in a bi-monthly MOMs group at SouthBrook Christian Church in Miamisburg put their heads together on how they could make a difference for the causes they are passionate about. Stephanie and Jennifer, along with many other local moms, came together to organize the 1st Annual Family Fun Run. This year it will take place at North Park in Springboro on May 14th from 9-1. Registration begins at 8:30 and the 5k begins at 10. Seth Maxwell, founder of the Thirst Project, is coming in from Hollywood, California and will be speaking at 9:30 am. There will be a 1 mile run for kids ages 10 & under immediately following the 5k. Before May 1st the cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids 10 and under and a race t-shirt is guaranteed. After May 1st the cost goes up to $30 for adults. The Fun Run will also feature a DJ, bounce houses, professional face painters, food trucks (including the infamous Zombie Dogz) and the Local Love Roaming Boutique. Many thanks to the primary sponsors; Millennium Metals, A&S Party Rental, Domino’s Pizza and Watkins Heating and Air for making the fun possible!
Stephanie, busy mom of four children (ages 5 and under), has always been passionate about adoption. She, herself, was adopted. When she learned of Adopt Together, a crowd-funding platform for adoptions, she was immediately interested in helping. 80% of incarcerated individuals have come from the foster system! A reason for this is that adoption is crazy expensive. On average it costs $35,000 to adopt a child. Adopt Together was launched in 2012 by a pastor originally from Dayton, Ohio, Hank Fortener. To date Adopt Together has helped over 1,300 families adopt and recently just crossed the $8 million mark in funds raised to bring families together. By supporting Adopt Together you can help positively impact the future for several of the 17.8 million kids without a family.
Jennifer, mom of three, became passionate about the Thirst Project after reading The Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns with her husband. They learned that only 4% of US giving leaves our borders. After reading this book they were convinced that clean water access was the primary catalyst to change. Every SECOND 1,500 bottles of water are consumed in America while 4,400 children die from contaminated water every day! As fate would have it, Seth Maxwell, founder of the the Thirst Project, spoke at SouthBrook that month. Since then, Jen and her husband, Bob, have helped raise over $70,000 for the Thirst Project and traveled to Swaziland, Africa in November 2015 with the Thirst Project team to dedicate 20 sustainable fresh water wells. The most striking part of their experience was visiting the old water sources. No family should ever have to live in those conditions. Their business and family mission is to develop and nourish relationships within communities while making a difference, serving Christ and positively affecting people’s lives.
