During these long winter months we are always trying to find new things to do with the kids to keep warm and keep them entertained! Since my son has been playing basketball, we thought heading up to the University of Dayton men’s basketball game would be the perfect outing for a Saturday afternoon.
We got there early and watched the cheerleaders practice their jumps, lifts and cheers—something my daughter really enjoyed! When it was time to announce the Dayton Flyers, they dimmed the lights, had spotlights on the team and the big screens lit up the court. It was exciting to watch and the whole arena was ready to cheer the home team to a victory!
While the game itself was a little long for my four-year-old, time outs were entertaining, the band was on-point, playing current songs my kids recognized and the team mascot, Rudy was there to get the fans “flyered-up!” It was also a great learning experience for my son, who is six, to learn more about the game, fouls and three-point shots.
The basketball team is consistently sold out, so plan ahead and buy tickets early! Also, on the weekends, kids are invited down on the court to shoot hoops after the game! It’s a little crazy but tons of fun! My kids had a blast and my husband and I did too! If you don’t have Dayton Flyers gear, wear red! You’ll fit right in with the crowd. The student fan base is known as the “Red Scare” and has more than 1,300 UD undergrad members. The Dayton Flyers are currently 21-3. For more information on the team, or to buy tickets visit, Dayton Flyers.
I received free tickets so I could write about my experience. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks for reading!
