Romance, comedy, action, rock n’ roll, and opera—this musical version of Sleeping Beauty has it all! Meet Briar Rose, her overprotective parents, three wacky fairies (and a wicked one), and a dragon with an attitude as our contemporary twist on the classic tale returns to Ensemble’s stage. From the creators of Cinderella and Snow White, this enchanted and memorable musical will delight audiences of all ages this holiday season.
My boys and I had the opportunity to check out Sleeping Beauty before opening night. I have never been to the Ensemble Theatre so it was all a new experience for me. It is a very quaint space and they offer concessions in the front so you can stock up on candy and drinks before the show. I have to say, I loved the atmosphere. With it being a smaller venue, you feel like you are on stage which made it great for little ones. I think this type of venue holds their attention longer. Another thing I loved about the show was the costumes. The fairies (good and evil) had the BEST costumes and they even lit up which the boys thought was AWESOME! I won’t give it away, but there was a super cool costume at the end that had the boys in AWE!
I think this is a show the entire family can enjoy. It is an old-time family favorite so the kids get into the magic and mystery of the story and there is some great comedic moments that will have the adults rolling in their seats! It is actually hard to make me laugh out loud when I am watching a show and I busted out laughing several times during Sleeping Beauty. I have to say it is nice to take your kids to something they like, while also being entertained yourself!
Overall, we had a great time and I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you have never been to Ensemble. I really enjoyed the venue and the show was FAB!
