Sometimes we just need to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle and it isn’t like we can just plan a beach vaca whenever we want! We decided to do a long weekend away to Indy which is less than 2 hours away from home. Creating a weekend away for the family to somewhere not far from home is a great way to regroup, explore new surroundings and just get some good old fashion family time in!
We had an amazing time in Indy. We stayed at the Drury Inn which was AWESOME because you get a full dinner and breakfast included in the price of your room AND each person over 21 gets 3 alcoholic drinks each night as well. Mama was lovin her some free drinks :) Each room has a microwave and fridge so you can bring your own food as well. Having these options allowed for a super cheap weekend because we barely paid for food! That’s what I’m talkin bout!
We only had 2 full days there so I picked a few things I knew the boys would enjoy. I had heard so many great things about the Indianapolis Children’s Museum so I knew that was a must visit for us. All I can say is WOW! This place was incredible! The entire building is dedicated to the exploration and education of children. Every floor has new things for the kids to check out and they had so many different exhibits for the kids to enjoy. Everything from dinosaurs, a huge water table, musical instruments, dress up areas ,Planetarium shows, play construction site and so much more. We were there from the minute it opened until the closing parade and were able to see everything they had, but could have spent so much more time on each exhibit, literally taking days to really go through the museum thoroughly. I highly recommend checking out this museum and if you have Aquarium passes you get a few dollars off the price of admission! It really is close enough to cincy that you could go for the day if you really wanted to save some money and not get a hotel for the night.
We also went to Beef and Boards which is a dinner theater, but they also offer Children plays during the day. Each admission for the children’s play gets a juice box and snack and the play lasts about an hour. We went to the Pirate show while we were there and the boys got a kick out of it. It is a nice way to see a show for the kids because you have plenty of room at your table to move around if they get antsy and they have a snack and drink to keep them occupied as well. After the show is over, all the cast members stay after to sign autographs which Cody thought was super cool.
Lastly, we visited the Indy Museum of Art. This is FREE and they have an awesome kids area with crafts, classes for the kids (we learned how to make handmade cards for Valentines day!), a chalk board and some other items they can play with. They also have a really nice outside walking path that the kids can explore.
Overall, we had a great trip. It was nice to get out of Cincy and go on an adventure on the cheap. This trip helped me realize that we don’t have to take a week long vaca to the beach to get some quality family time. Just checking out the sites around you can be enough to recharge your batteries and explore something new and exciting! Happy Travels!
