I always say how NOT crafty I am! I did get an awesome sewing machine for Christmas so I could do some little projects here and there and it has been fun learning. A few of us girlys get together once a month to sew something that has been on our “want” list. I made the coziest chevron/ minky blanket last month (yes I will do a post on it sometime lol)!! My friend Pam, on the other hand, is a little sewing diva. I always joke with her because she gets her supplies for our monthly sewing night and then completes the project before we meet up! She made the most adorable Easter Egg Hunt bags and asked her to share them with you! Thanks Pammy!
Lately, I am all about the 30 minute sewing project. I like things that are cute, simple and easy to make, which is why I was so excited to make little Easter Egg bags for all the upcoming egg hunts! They also are great for toys or little books to carry into the car, restaurant or wherever else your tot wants to bring their own things!
I don’t do patterns and I like to “wing-it” so hopefully you can follow along!
First, I wanted to make burlap bags, but I didn’t really want to spend time or money on ribbon to make them cute, so when I found this papery chevron material I knew it would be perfect! It is 100% polyester and was only $2.99/yard PLUS it was 40% off when I purchased it! Woo Hoo! I got ½ a yard of each color so both bags cost me $3.
My kids are 2 and 4, so I knew I wanted my bag taller so the eggs would hopefully stay in when they crouch down to pick up eggs. I figured roughly the size of a piece of paper. So I folded my fabric in half and laid a piece of paper down and loosely cut around it. Yes, it’s that exact! Decide on a “top” and fold it over about 1’’ for the top hem to have a nice, finished look.
Then I took two scraps of the same color about 2 inches wide for the straps. I made a simple tube but this fabric has ZERO stretch to it so I couldn’t pull it through.
So instead I folded the fabric to the center and have a zigzag seam in the center of the straps. Next time I would probably use wide ribbon, or try to make this cuter, but again, cheap, quick and easy was the plan!! :) This fabric does seem to fray so you could probably get away with just cutting two strips but you would see the underside a bit.
So after you have your two straps you can measure out where you want them on the bag, or guesstimate like I did. Looks good here and here. Perfect. Sew the straps to the wrong side of the fabric on that little hem you just made. Do this to both pieces. Then line them up and sew the other three side’s (right side) together. Then fold it in half long ways and cut the corners off. You will be cutting through 4 layers of fabric but they will all be the same size.
This is to give your bag a little bottom shape. I forget the technical terms but everyone on Pinterest seemed to be doing it for their bags so I figured why not! :) Then sew those corners shut. Make sure you backstitch so eggs don’t fall out of the bag!
Flip your bag and voila! A cute little DIY Easter Egg Hunt bag!
How adorable is this??!!

I love them! You did an awesome job! I am also not very crafty …. maybe one or two crafts a year, if I'm pushing the creative side a little. These look easy and so cute. You know when I was little my mom made our candy bags at Halloween and to this day my sister and I have our bags. Our own kids use them now. It'd be a really neat little tradition to start!
Aside from stopping by just to catch up on your latest posts, I wanted to let you know I've nominated Motherhood Support for the Liebster Award :) You can find details on my blog – but basically it's an award expressing how much I appreciate your blog and support. You guys are some of my favorite writers/crafters/fellow mamas and I'm happy to have you in my blogging world :)
The bag is nice and really super easy to sew. It can be also used to carry some light things after the egg hunts.
