I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Tis the season for gifts and Santa, family and winter fun. Sometimes I can forget what the real meaning of Christmas is to my family…. the birth of Jesus!! I was super impressed with Cody’s Christmas School party because it was ALL about celebrating baby Jesus. There was the story of how Jesus was born in Chapel and singing Happy Birthday to HIM, the kids performed a Christmas play of the story of HIS birth (Cody was a Wiseman!), they sang songs to Jesus and we had a birthday cake for Jesus and sang to him once again. I LOVE Santa, I LOVE Christmas songs and I LOVE gift giving, but I have to remind myself what we are really celebrating and I hope to instill that into my kids. His school has really showed me some great ways to teach my kids about the real meaning of Christmas.
I have talked to many families this year and a lot of them do 3 gifts from Santa in honor of the 3 gifts to baby Jesus from the 3 Wiseman. I have really been thinking that we may adopt that tradition ourselves for next year so we don’t over indulge the kids which is easy for me to do….who doesn’t love getting gifts for their kids?? It is also a great teachable moment to talk about why they are getting the 3 gifts from Santa. I have read some families don’t agree to “lie” to their kids about there being a Santa because they worry that they would lose trust in them as parents, but I am just not ready to give that magic of Santa up (or my Elf on the Shelf for that matter!) any time soon. It is just all too special :)
What are your Christmas traditions?
