With the holiday season quickly approaching (I can’t believe we are just two months from Christmas!) I am always thinking of ways to give back to those who don’t have the means or family to celebrate the holidays the way we do. I am pretty frugal with our money and although I may get a few things for the kids new, more times than not I get hand me down clothes and toys or buy them at a second-hand store. They just aren’t at an age where they care so why not?! I am all about saving money! On the other hand, I will let them browse the dollar bins at stores and I don’t think twice to get them a few things, why not, it is only a DOLLAR right?! I am realizing that those little gestures may be creating bad habits! I DON’T want my kids to think they get what they want when they want it!
I think we can use all of these little moments to teach our kids that while we may be fortunate to get some coloring books and tear pads from Target, we need to work hard for what we have and to GIVE BACK! We have adopted families and/or individuals in the past for Christmas which is a great way to teach your kids it isn’t all about THEM! This post is sponsored by Toys R Us and I just LOVED this video which can inspire us all to give back!!
