The hubs and I were watching Kourtney and Kim Take Miami (yes babe, I just outed you!) and on the Finale, Kim announced her pregnancy. Scott, Kourtney’s semi-douchebag baby daddy, was congratulating her and then on his taped one on one he said (paraphrasing here), “I am so excited for Kim to have a baby so she knows what it’s like to have sleepless nights”!!
This made me literally laugh out loud! It got me thinking…. what is the REAL reason we are so happy to hear our friends are expecting???! Although really bad to say, isn’t it nice to know that your childless friend, who is now pregnant, is going to know the agony you endure as a parent :) Don’t get me wrong, the kids are a blast and I love them dearly, but it makes me feel better when I can vent to my friends about sleepless nights, the sea of endless poopy diapers and the crying and whining I try to squelch on a daily basis and THEY GET IT! Once I had Grayson, I found myself hoping my mom friends with one kid would have a second so they would get what it was like having 2!!
Anyways, wanted to keep it light today and I hope it made you laugh. Don’t even act like you don’t think the same thing! We all like to feel like the people around us get how crazy life is when we have kids running around! Very rewarding, amazing and lovely, but UTTERLY exhausting! The boys and I were out the other day for lunch, sitting outside by the playground. Cody is begging me to skip lunch so he can go play on the playground some more, as Grayson is winging his food onto the ground. As I am picking the food off the ground, the older couple behind us said to enjoy every moment because it is gone before you know it! Well, I know that is true, but I said to them, “I would be good if I had 1-2 days off every week so I could sleep, clean my house and just take a breather. Then I could feel rejuvenated and take on the world”! I think they thought I was kidding, but seriously, wouldn’t that be awesome? :)
To all the mamas out there… you are AMAZING! Waking up everyday, putting everyone else first and yourself last, keeping your cool when all you want to do is scream, trying to feel beautiful amidst poop, puke, spit up and boogers, being everything to everyone yet feeling like you have failed something or someone at the end of the day. Remember that you are doing AMAZING things everyday! FOCUS on that and know that God is smiling down on you just for trying because we don’t have to be PERFECT! Keep on being YOU and when you are having a bad day, call a mom friend who can talk you off the ledge because she was there yesterday!
