I have blogged over time how we are making our new house our own and that takes TIME! One room at a time that is! I had REALLY been wanting to do something to my kitchen since that is where I spend a lot of my time. I started with
having it painted (started out yellow, but then I had her tame that color down with a gray. I ended up leaving a few walls yellow and the rest gray which I LOVE) and as you know that can change a feel of the room instantly. I knew that I needed new curtains because the ones that were up were boring and just not me. So I found some different fabrics at esty and had a
gal in Hamilton sew me some custom drapes. Her prices were great, I thought, and I got my curtains done for $100 (not including the fabric). She did a fantastic job and although everyone kept trying to talk me into doing them myself, I am SO glad I didn’t. Sometimes, things just turn out better when done by a professional! I would not have thought to do what she did with the border of the one fabric against the other and it really does make them look completely custom and just plain ADORABLE!!! She did line the back with a fabric that can withstand the sun so my drapes don’t get splotchy over time.
The next thing I HAD to do was find something to go above my entryway from my kitchen to my family room. It was so bare and empty. Now that I am ADDICTED to
Uppercase Living (after having Anne Marie
personalize the boys bathroom with an ADORABLE sign), I knew that I had to have another beautiful vinyl and it would be perfect across the entry way. What I love so much about Uppercase Living is that I can pick out something from the catalog or make up something on my own. I had actually seen this quote in the book, but had a few ideas on adding a salt/pepper shaker etc. I talked with Anne Marie about it and she completely designed a custom vinyl for me! I was able to pick the exact colors, font and style I wanted!! Best of all, if I ever change my scheme in here, I can just peel it off with no damage to my walls!! What could be better than that?! Although I don’t want to admit it, when we were done putting it up, I started crying! I know, I am a freak! It is just that I spend a lot of time in my kitchen and usually it is making and preparing things for everyone else. Sometimes I can get a little bitter, but now that I can look up and see this beautiful vinyl verbage on my wall, it reminds me why I am doing all of this! It just makes me happy and I smile every time I read it!!
Isn’t this seriously the cutest thing EVER?!!!!! Anne Marie is SO creative (which helps because I am NOT at all!) and she took the colors, font and saying I wanted and added the salt shaker and hearts. We could have put the wording straight across, but I loved it offset. Just another great thing about Uppercase. You can personalize it to your own style and personality!
Anne Marie was able to actually raise $400 in donated Uppercase product for both Ronald McDonald house and Children’s Hospital in the month of August! Now through September 30th she is offering 20% off an order $60 or more. 30% off an order $100 or more! Great dealio!! Also, just in time for the holidays! What a great gift this would make too!! I am thinking of getting all of my friends wine glasses (which you can get at the $1 store) and add some of the cute colored circles Uppercase has on the glass, along with their first initial for a custom wine glass and really inexpensive gift :) You can view their new cute Fall 2012 catalog at Make Your Space Speak under products and 2012 Fall Catalog . I am completely obsessed…. I can’t stop!!!
Do you spend a lot of time in your kitchen or in other parts of your home? How have you made it more enjoyable for yourself and more YOU?!
