Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

by Jennie on July 13, 2012

I am always looking for ways to reduce my carbon footprint, reuse and/or recycle  items I have or have found. I am actually  known in the neighborhood as the girl who will take everyone else’s trash! I mean come on, if it is free and I can do something with it, why not?!

Everyone was loving Cody’s rainbow rice SO much that a friend of mine actually asked me to make some for her daughter as a birthday gift. I actually got a little creative (for once) and turned it into a fun craft for Cody and a cool and inexpensive gift!

You never know when you will need empty containers!

I LOVE saving my plastic containers because the ones where the lids are the same size as the container cannot be recyled so I hold onto them and use them for just about everything! I have used them for crafts, to make drums, shakers, or take home food containers for guests. I also saw recently you can give them to Whole Foods.

This turned into a fun craft for the Code man!

I also save some of my egg cartons. These are great to put paint and it washes out really easy afterwards. I put the water for his paint brushes in a plastic container also and then I don’t have to use my good dishes!

Here is the finished product!

We had to use 2 coats of paint. I had Cody paint one coat and then I used a blow dryer so it would dry quicker. Then I had him do a second coat and then used the hair dryer again so it took no time at all. Make your rainbow rice in the childs favorite colors and there you have it! Once they dump out the rice they can use the containers to scoop and dump!!

What do you love to reuse and recycle????
