The Cincinnati March for Babies is striving to break records on April 29th, 2012. This spring, the March of Dimes will take place at Paul Brown Stadium and Sawyer Point (one of my favorite parks!)!! Join the 12,000 walkers who are striving to raise over 1 million dollars to ensure the health of all babies.
The March of Dimes plays a leading role in infant and maternal health. Their focus is on all babies, those born healthy and those that need help to survive and thrive.
- In 2011, over 1,100 babies died before their first birthday in Ohio alone
- The infant mortality rate is significantly higher in Ohio than the national average
- The premature birth rate in the U.S. is 1 in 10, but in Ohio it is 1 in 8
I have personally known several people who have lost their babies at birth, being premature and with failure to thrive issues. As a mother, I cannot imagine growing your baby in your belly, have that joy of going to the hospital to deliver and not being able to take your baby home with you. Whether your baby dies prematurely or you have to leave your baby at the hospital while you go home, as a mom, I could never imagine what a family goes through during that time. A good friend of mine walks every year for her little nephew she lost and the money she raises, along with the other walkers can do such amazing things for our babies!
You can join the walk, create your own team, or make a donation. Anything you can do to help makes a difference!!! The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies and it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. Please join their cause and bring awareness to our community by spreading the word about the walk this year!! You can visit the March for Babies website to get registered or make a donation!
