I recently posted about how I was given some homemade deodorant and how much I LOVED it! I loved it SO much that I just ran out and decided to make some more :) Luckily, there is only a few ingredients so I had everything I needed in the kitchen!
I have made several things in the past: laundry powder, soft scrub, cleaning sprays, beauty products etc., but I have to say that making this deodorant was as EASY as it gets! It took me 5 minutes at most… I made it while Cody ate and I fed Grayson bites of homemade yogurt and pureed sweet potatoes in between! So if you have 5 minutes you can make it too!
Thanks, Crunchy Savings, for the recipe:
- 6 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/4 cup corn starch
- 1/4 cup of baking soda
- Optional: several drops of your favorite essential oil for smell
My coconut was sitting out at room temp so it softened a little and I just mixed everything together with a spoon. I added lavender oil (one of my fav scents) to make it smell oh so good! I put mine into a small mason jar I had, you can use any container you have around the house and apply with fingers. If that grosses you out, use an old deodorant stick and mold the mixture into the stick!
This recipe will leave streaks on your clothes so I just put on my clothes first and then apply the deodorant. I had put what I got as a gift into an old deodorant stick, but it was melting a little too much in my bathroom. This time, I am going to keep it in the fridge. Although it sounds like a bit of a pain, it works because I can put it on as I head out the door and already completely dressed of course!
I am SO excited to find this recipe because it is totally natural, I know what is in it (!), I can make it any time I run out because it calls for everything I keep stocked in my kitchen, takes only a few minutes to whip up and it costs NOTHING to make…. I was trying to calculate it, but I suck at math! I know it is under a buck to make though! I marked the calendar and am going to see how long it lasts me!!
Keep in mind, commercial antiperspirants contain aluminum which is super controversial and pretty nasty for the body. If you really don’t want to make your own, you can check out our post on some other natural alternatives that you can buy!
