Halloween Fun and Fall Crafts

by Jennie on October 27, 2011

We have been having a ton of fun this October for Halloween! If you live near the cincy area, there are SO many great things to do around the city to celebrate the fall season. We have been to Hallzooween at the zoo and Schappacher Farm. Both were great!

Hallzooween is a great time to see all the animals at the beautiful Cincinnati Zoo while your kids go trick-or-treating at different stations around the zoo. In addition to all the fun, they schedule different activities that the animals do with the theme of fall like the Elephants smashing pumpkins!!

The other place we went was Schappacher farm in Mason. I looked into a lot of the different farms and some of them are just downright expensive! They may charge to get in and then each activity is a separate “fee”. Schappacher farm, on the other hand was very inexpensive! No charge to get in. They have a FREE corn maze and FREE hayride out to the pumpkin patch. They had a little train that the kids can go on for $2 and they have several different animals the kids can see for FREE! They did offer all the yummy fall treats: caramel apples, apple cider, cookies and hot dogs for just a few dollars. It would be worth the trip if you are looking for a fun fall treat and don’t want to break the bank!

Gotta love hay rides! Grayson was all snuggled in my sling and lovin it too!

I also wanted to plan a few EASY (since I am not so crafty!) Halloween crafts. We posted last year an easy one we did with the boys and instead of glitter and glue we used paint! Just get a few small pumpkins (you can pick them up at the grocery store if you haven’t had time to get out to the pumpkin patch), paint and some brushes and let the kids go to town! I keep leftover egg cartons for paint (rinse out and let dry when finished and you can use these again and again) and other plastic containers I can’t recycle and they come in handy for all of our craft projects. Then I don’t have to use any of our dishes!! Cody LOVEs anything where paint is involved!

They other thing I picked up at Michaels is a “decorate a pumpkin” kit. We got two big pumpkins: one to carve (which is daddy’s project with Cody) and one to decorate. I got it for $1 and all the pieces were sticky so Cody could just peel and stick the pieces on the pumpkin. SUPER EASY and inexpensive!

What are your favorite fall activities? Any easy fall craft ideas?

Love the pics! We went to Shaw farms… it was really neat and inexpensive. The kids did the zoo with Mamaw and Pop. And Scott took them to KI with his family (while I was at Sara's shower). This weekend is the Halloween Campout. Ava has been a witch and a cat so far… we are both being Snow White this weekend! Matchies! Happy Halloween!
