Kim and I have talked a lot on the blog about our journey to find more natural products. I have made a SLOW transition over the years (which in my opinion is the only way to do it! It is too overwhelming if you try and do it all at once)! I have had the opportunity to try Ma Mi Sunny Days Mineral Sunblock.
The first thing I wanted to do was check it on the Cosmetic Database, which is something I try and make a habit out of now so I can “rank” products I am buying. There was a list of 20 products and they all ranked a 2 or less which is what my goal is for the products I use. Unfortunately, I could not find the sunblock listed. If there is a product you are looking for on the CD, you can manually put in all the ingredients and it will generate a number! After putting in all the ingredients the CD ranked the sunlock at a 4. That is considered a moderate concern on CD’s website, but is still MUCH lower than many of the other sunblocks on the market.
All of their products are free of all the big nasties: NO toxins, parabens, fillers, petrolatums, and sodium laureth. You can read more about the sunblock on their website, including a complete list of the ingredients. All in all, I liked the consistency of the block. It did leave a faint white film on my skin, but I did feel like it covered my skin well. It was very easy to put on as well. Some of the more natural blocks are like a paste which can make it more difficult to apply, but that was not the case with the Sunny Days Mineral Sunblock.
Overall, I have a sunblock that I get for my family that I have been happy with and ranks a 1 on the cosmetic database so I won’t be switching blocks any time soon. I do think this line is much more natural than a lot of products that are on the market today so if you are looking to cut back on toxic products, this would be a good place to start.
