Ecoya Candle Review

by Jennie on June 22, 2011

We were asked to sample some candles from Australia that are now launching here in the the US! The company, Ecoya, wants to provide products that are more natural than some of the other traditional lines out there. The candles we sampled are made from natural plant wax (ensuring that they don’t release harmful carbon monoxide like some candles), sustainable soy (better than the traditional petroleum based paraffin) and contain 100% cotton wicks, made from pure lead-free cotton.

The packaging is beautiful!

Some of Ecoya’s soft summer fragrances include Wild Frangipani, Lotus Flower and Sweet Pea & Jasmine. I burned my Natural Pillar candle, vanilla bean, this weekend and it smelled wonderful in the kitchen.

All the candles ingredients contain: soy wax, fragrance & cotton wicks. Since fragrance can be a debated ingredient we did contact Ecoya about the “frangrance” ingredient and this is the response we got from them- “Ecoya uses Essential oils in its candles, some of which are ‘supported’ with the addition of some fragrance oils to assist the throw qualities of the candle. All our fragrance oils comply totally with the IFRA guidelines in terms of quality and dosage.”

I use essential oils a lot in my home so I know that they are natural. I am not an expert on “fragrance oils” but from what I have read they are synthetic. Everyone has different feelings on what is “natural” so this is an individual choice.

These candles would make wonderful gifts, so keep them in mind if you’re looking for something a little different for a housewarming gift, birthday or a special thank you! Kim and I loved the packaging and they have really unique scent combinations we haven’t seen anywhere else! Kim particularly liked the lemongrass and ginger in her bathroom – she didn’t even have to light it to appreciate the beautifully fresh scent!

You can learn more about Ecoya and their product line, which includes more than just candles, on their website.
