We have posted several times about making your own beauty products, but I actually haven’t made any of them yet. For mother’s day, Whole Foods, was hosting an event for the mamas and they had you make your own body scrub. I used it and it was amazing!!! Even Steve uses it! Now that I know that these things really work I am on a mission to try and start making my body care products. O.k. so I am not giving up EVERYTHING (!), but as I find things and if they seem easy enough I would like to give them a try… especially recipes for facials, scrubs, etc. It is the most natural thing to use and most of the ingredients you have in your kitchen so you know most of them are recipes you can make on the cheap! Check out our link to DIY beauty and try some out! Let me know how you like them! If I start finding things that actually work (or if you send me an email on ones you love) I will add a page to the blog with all the recipes so we can swap and share the good ones! So far I have only tried the body scrub we made from Whole Foods and it is AMAZING! Here is the recipe:
- 1/2 cup of olive oil (or any oil)
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract (or make your own)
- 1 cup of turbinado sugar
- 15 drops of peppermint essential oil (or any essential oil of your choice)
- 1/2 cup coffee grounds- can be used! great way to recycle :)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, using a fork throughly blend. Transfer into a jar (you can use a mason jar or any other jar you have around the house) and store in a cool place until ready to use. It lasts 1-2 weeks. Longer if refrigerated.
PROS: Super Moisturizing because of the olive oil. Smells great! Wonderful exfoliator.
CONS: It is messy because of the coffee grounds. You should only do this in the shower and then you can wash the coffee grounds down the drain.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to pass the information along to my sister-in-law. She's trying to do everything in their house naturally — organic foods, gluten- and casein-free foods, etc.. If she hasn't already made her own body scrub, I know she'll try this out.
