We heart Beech Acres!! Once again, another amazing workshop on Raising Resilient Kids! We have talked several times about Beech Acres and ALL the services they provide for parents, children and families. They really are such an amazing resource for parents from their conferences, parent coaches, foster program, counseling, the list goes on. One thing I LOVE is their online resource My Parenting Source which has so much wonderful info!! Here’s a short video clip from the workshop:
This months workshop, Raising Resilient Kids, focused on
- Instilling a sense of self in the child
- Focusing on their strengths (those things that can help them meet the demands of those difficult situations)
- Beliefs
- Helpers (someone that can anchor them and help them out in difficult situations)
What I love about these workshops is it is only an hour so I can get some great parenting information and advice from professionals in small doses so that I can take it home and really try and understand and put into practice the things that I have learned. It isn’t information overload which is great for me :) but it is long enough I can get the information I need on the topic I came to hear!
One of the things that really stuck in my mind from this workshop is regardless of how you feel about the situation your child is in (and this goes for your toddler all the way to your teen and adult children) empathize with them and acknowledge their feelings! This may seem trivial but really think about times with your kids when you have brushed off what they are saying about their feelings because it doesn’t seem that big of a deal to you. I know I do it with Cody and he is only 2!
I really recommend checking out the services Beech Acres provides and trying to schedule time into your month to attend these monthly workshops! IT IS WORTH IT!! Next month, April 5th, is The Discipline Solution: How to stop nagging, pleading and punishing so you can enjoy time with your child! LOVE IT :) Also, April 16th, Jane Bluestein (ONE OF OUR FAVS!) will be speaking at For the Love of Kids, Beech Acres on Parents, Kids and Boundaries: How to Draw the Line! We would love to see you there!
